History
The church of Christ on Jones Road was formerly named the Corinth church of Christ. The name was changed in 2008 when the congregation moved into a new facility on Jones Road.
The Corinth church started in 1908 in the Old Johnson school. This school house was located at the corner of Nick Davis Road and McCulley Mill Road in the eastern part of Limestone County in North Alabama.
The building is believed to have been built in 1912. Land was donated by John Pepper and J.C. Bailey. Construction was of wood siding with a tin roof. Inside, there were wooden slatted pews, gas lanterns, and a wood stove for heat. There was not a regular preacher. When a preacher would visit, the youngsters loved to sit on the floor in a semicircle in front of the pulpit.
In these early days, the church met only on Sunday mornings for about an hour of singing, praying, reading, classes, and the Lord's Supper. The communion table was covered with two white starched cloths; one to cover the table and the second to cover the emblems. The fruit of the vine was contained in two glasses. These were passed around for each member to partake. The bread was placed on glass plates and passed around.
The Corinth building was built in 1947. Construction was of concrete blocks with a shingled roof. The building contained an auditorium, two classrooms, and a small vestibule.
In the late 50's the building was enlarged to include a classroom wing, baptistery, rest rooms, and a central heat and air system. Again in 1980, the building was enlarged to its present facilities.
The Corinth/Jones Road church has been involved in teaching and preaching the Word in this community since the early 1900's.
